The つるや旅館 in Yamanouchi offers family rooms with air-conditioning, tatami floors, and yukata, featuring tea and coffee makers, sofa beds, and free toiletries. Guests can unwind in a hot spring bath and enjoy free WiFi. The ryokan is conveniently located near Jigokudani Monkey Park, Ryuoo Ski Park, and Mt. Kusatsu Shirane, with easy access to Suzaka City Zoo, Zenkoji Temple, and Nagano Station.

The atmosphere was family‑friendly, with coffee and a small breakfast available, public restrooms, and especially the shuttle to the station and the snow monkey park was great; the staff were always ready to help. However, there were some language difficulties, no potable water in the public restrooms, and the desk was only available for a fee (even though a bottle of water is provided to each guest upon arrival).

The staff were amazing, kind and accommodating, and helped me out when I hit a snag; the rooms were large and private.

The staff are incredibly polite and helpful, and one employee drove me everywhere; the onsen was also great. The rooms are typical Japanese and very spacious, a wonderful experience. At the end, a small lunch pack was given for the journey. I’ll definitely come back. There is nothing to complain about.

The private onsen was great! For people who are very sensitive to dust mites, it could trigger allergies, but the place is not dirty, it’s quite clean.

We spent a lot of time in the onsen available to guests – women had an indoor one with a small fountain and an outdoor one that could be used privately upon request. In the morning, bread was available at reception for anyone to take to go. The location is great, 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes taxi from Yudanaka station (direct connection to Nagano and the Snow Monkey Park bus).
