John was an amazing host; we’d never stayed in a basement room before, so we were nervous, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, spacious, and the bathroom and shower were roomy. Overall, we were very happy. Parking was a problem, but that’s out of the host’s control in the inner city.

We had everything we needed for our four‑adult family get‑together in Wellington: a friendly host, great location, parking, and breakfast. Our WOW concert got cancelled, but we still had a great chill‑out time together. We’ll come back sometime. Nothing was wrong, even the weather behaved.

The place was in a convenient spot and offered good value with breakfast included, but the breakfast options didn’t meet my dietary needs, so I couldn’t enjoy it. The room had a fridge, a kettle, a microwave, and tea and coffee supplies. There was no lock inside the room, which made me feel unsafe. The room was on the ground level and below road level by the main entrance, so it was noisy with guests passing by and accessing their rooms. The main front door didn’t lock, though a gate was locked from 8.30 pm. The room struggled to stay warm because there was a gap between the door and the frame, letting heat escape and making it feel unprivate. It’s an old property, and a few minor adjustments would make it feel more secure. If it hadn’t been fully booked, I would have asked for a room change.
