Breakfast was good and the room was comfortable, but walking up the stairs to the top room at my age was tough, no food was served Sunday evening, the bar closed early, and there was noisy street noise Saturday night, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault.

A very central hotel on High Street; the reception staff were excellent, kind, and helpful, the room was spacious and comfortable, dinner there was delicious, and breakfast in the upstairs restaurant was superb. Our room was on the 3rd floor with no lift, but we knew this before booking; we’re in our 70s, traveling for 10 days with a large suitcase, yet we managed. I read there was a car park behind the hotel, so we drove around town four times trying to find it; eventually we parked on the road and asked reception. It isn’t signposted and isn’t obvious, but it was only £1 for a night—so no complaints.

Lovely room, comfortable bed, and super breakfast. Parking is a walk away and the early‑morning meter requires payment; remember to take your car key with you (I didn’t, so my wife brought the key but forgot the room key).
