“Beautiful hotel”
The staff, location, and cleanliness were all good, but everything else was perfect.

Located in downtown Halifax, the Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Downtown offers harbour views and easy access to the waterfront, within a 2-minute walk. The hotel features a spa, massage services, and modern rooms with flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, and tea/coffee facilities. Some rooms have private balconies or spa baths. The on-site Bistro serves daily meals, and a 24-hour food market is available.

The rooms were large and very reasonably equipped, the location was good for walking around Halifax’s centre, and the walk to the waterfront was short. The parking garage was a plus. The furnishings were a bit dated, the view of a large parking lot was not very homely, one elevator was broken and the other took a long time, and the breakfast room wasn’t particularly nice.

I was thrilled with the location—just a 5‑minute walk to the Harbourfront—and the view from my window was fantastic. The room was spotless, earning it a full 5‑star rating for cleanliness, and the staff were all very friendly. However, breakfast was a bit awkward: it wasn’t a traditional buffet, and the system required me to pick items from a menu on top of a bar counter without seeing them, all while staying under a $25 limit. The bar staff were still super nice, though.

The hotel’s location was fine, and the restaurant staff, especially Khushi, were absolutely delightful—so glad she was there to look after us. The dinner gentleman (I didn’t catch his name) was also very pleasant. I was, however, seriously disappointed by the front‑desk staff. I booked for three adults for two nights, paying over $90 for breakfast included, only to be told it was only for two people—a detail that was nowhere mentioned. They admitted it was their mistake but wouldn’t adjust the charge until the manager called her manager and changed it for the second morning. It felt unprofessional and cost them $10‑15 to upset a Marriott club member, even though they admitted fault. I wasn’t the only upset guest, and the treatment and service were below par. Construction is ongoing across the road since 7 am, and the elevator was broken again.

The hotel’s location is perfect, practically right by the Waterfront. We were welcomed warmly, the room was well equipped and quite spacious. We arrived on Sunday evening and left on Wednesday, but the two elevators were out of service the entire time. The front‑desk manager helped us carry our luggage to the 6th floor—thank you again! Unfortunately, we couldn’t reserve a spot in the parking garage, so on the first night we had to use a public parking lot. Breakfast was in line with Canadian customs, but the room was very cool, thanks to the air‑conditioning. All staff were extremely courteous. The only downside was the need for quicker elevator repairs.
