Ribeira Grande Country House

The location is surrounded by a large garden with banana trees, sugar cane, avocados… and the village Ribeira Grande is just a 5‑minute walk away, letting you explore all of Santo Antão. Nothing really stood out, but at night there are mosquitoes outside because of the humidity, even though there are mosquito nets on all windows. There’s no air‑conditioning, so it can get warm at night.

“Maison agréable et très bien située par rapport aux randonnées”

The house sits amid lush vegetation, close to shops, and the lady who welcomed us was very kind; we also enjoyed the daily visits from the cats. However, the kitchen is missing a few tools like a can opener and a stove‑top, and it’s frustrating that when the door slams, we get stuck outside—there’s no exterior handle.

“Un petit coin de paradis !”

The house was gorgeous, set a little away from town so we could enjoy mountain views and a very peaceful natural setting, all amenities were within walking distance and perfectly suited for a family stay; we loved spending five dreamy nights there with attentive house staff and caring owners, the cleanliness and kitchen facilities were excellent for cooking after a day of hiking, and nearby shops let us buy local groceries. Don’t overthink it—pick this Ribeira Grande lodging, which also serves as the best base for hikes and tours of Santo Antao’s top spots. Everything was perfect.
