“One night was enough. It was an interesting experience”
The place felt exotic and strange, but the toilet was infested with maggots and there was nothing to do.

IL SILENZIO DELLA NATURA. LA COLAZIONE

Exploring the architectural genius was an adventure; the concept was amazing and the location was beautiful for a few nights, though a bit more soundproofing would help and a bar would have been nice – still, we adored staying here.

Our stay at Ikalar was fantastic; Andrés, a wonderful host and engaging conversationalist, explained the concept behind the place, making the experience even better. The tree houses were stunning, spotless, and incredibly peaceful, giving a true connection to nature. I would absolutely recommend it and hope to return.

This unique, magical spot in the forest was conceived by artist Andreas, whom we met (he speaks great English) over dinner and breakfast; he was generous with his time and shared his story and future plans. The quirky tree houses are accessed via suspension walkways, and a common lounge, kitchen, and viewing post are available for the adventurous. There’s a swimming pool (incredibly cold in February) and common areas around the property. The furniture, mosaics, and other details are amazing. We loved the orchids, the cat Snowy, the comfortable bed, and the great internet. The coffee was the best I’d had in Mexico, and we left with a packet of his artwork and story. However, the description had inaccuracies: the link led to a wrong location 10 km away, though Andreas had sent the correct one; it’s a few km down a dusty road, but we managed it in our hire car. It’s not truly remote, yet it feels like the heart of the jungle, which we appreciated. Check with Andreas beforehand about meal options; we were glad to share a simple dinner and breakfast, avoiding a village restaurant that would have detracted from the experience. There was no coffee maker in the room, but Saul gave us kitchen access.
