“Quintessential rural setting with a pub”

Breakfast wasn't included, so I skipped it; the place was marketed as a four‑star hotel but felt more like a B&B. It was very quiet, the pub food was a nice bonus, and both the hosts and other guests were friendly. I was disappointed that it was advertised as a hotel when it wasn't.

“I like to stay there as it is quite, and not bad value for money in comparison with some places at”

I was pleased overall when I checked into my room, but the first night was tough because the pub was closed and I was wiped out from traveling; the shower needed bleach, yet the rest of the room was tidy. No one handed me a key upon arrival, which added to my stress.

“Cheapish and fairly cheerful.”

The staff were friendly and the food was cheap and cheerful. Between the two rooms we booked, ours was the better one—spacious and reasonably cosy. The property advertised breakfast, but none was available; we found a lovely village café that opened at 9, though that option might have been closed on Saturday nights. The second room had a damp smell, and we joked that it was "good job, it's only one night." We ordered an evening meal with a decent selection, but the last orders were taken at 9 pm. Drinks weren't a problem, and we enjoyed playing cards in the bar until the drinks ran out, which ended the game.
