We’re only sorry about the owner’s husband, who, unlike the owner, was at least polite, helpful and understanding. He was the only person who kept a respectful attitude in an experience that otherwise was a real nightmare. A stay to forget. The price was outrageous, the property neglected, and the aggression unacceptable. The owner started verbally attacking us even in front of her own little children, creating a surreal and deeply unpleasant scene. We found this especially shocking because the kids had to witness an avoidable tense situation. We don’t know where to start, because we rarely experienced such a bad stay, both for the property conditions and, above all, for the owner’s behavior. We started from the assumption that we misunderstood the checkout time, thinking it was an hour later. We fully acknowledge our mistake and immediately apologized, mortified by the inconvenience. But a misunderstanding cannot justify what happened. The owner began violently slamming her fists against the room door, speaking to us in aggressive tones and verbally offensive. Not satisfied, she opened the door and entered the room while my partner was in the bathroom, naked, preparing to leave. It was deeply embarrassing, intrusive and totally unacceptable. To top it off, she claimed she was offended because I had mistaken her for the cleaning lady. I still find that reaction incomprehensible: my mother actually does that job, which I consider dignified and respectable. There was no intention to offend or demean anyone. Evidently, for the owner being mistaken for a cleaner is an offense. This, frankly, says more about her than about us. The argument escalated to the point where we feared a physical confrontation.
