“Guter Ausgangspunkt für Schnorcheltrips”
We stayed on Dayan Island from mid‑November 25 for six days and felt very comfortable. However, upon arrival we moved from Elsa Homestay to a hut at the adjacent Dayan Dive Homestay because my wife couldn’t climb the steep last step to our Elsa hut or the last step to the dining area in the neighboring hut, due to the extreme height difference (probably fine for more athletic guests). We received tasty food and were warmly welcomed by everyone on the island. The first point of contact on site was Habel, who speaks English very well and could answer any question, such as the extra charge for the pricier Dayan Dive Homestay, snorkeling trips, etc.; Habel was the heart of Dayan for us. The house reef isn’t particularly impressive; it was almost only possible to swim at high tide because the water level was otherwise insufficient. But snorkeling trips to the nearby Manta Point (early morning), where I snorkeled with five mantas, or to the house reef from the south at the Batanta Adventure Homestay, or to Lea’s Garden were fantastic. I even had the luck to encounter a “walking shark.” However, one must pay close attention to the current conditions.
