“Erlebnis-Riad mit luxuriös-historischen Fürstensuiten ab 60€ - und Dienerzimmern für Low-Budget”
If you’re a group of four or willing to spend 60 € a day, this princely riad is worth it. It looks like a 17th‑century building that’s barely been altered, and the large rooms feel like a king’s palace—massively equipped, a true time warp. It’s the pinnacle of old Andalusian‑Moroccan style. You almost feel embarrassed to wipe the mosaic stair treads with your street shoes. Everything is lovingly maintained and clean, and breakfast is included. The new manager lives in Munich and loves everything historic and authentic, which is very German. From the toilet window you can see directly down onto Tetouan’s nightlife centre; locals keep partying until 3 am over mint tea, but the thick walls of the riad keep the noise out. A few metres away are tanneries and leather workshops—just two or three minutes, but you’ll probably wander and lose track of time. That’s why you might not find the hotel right away on the second day. The high terrace offers a fantastic view—one of the highest around, overlooking the mountain and kasbah on one side and the king’s palace the other, which the king actually occupies each summer.
The first room we got didn’t suit us; it was probably the former salon opposite. It had no window, but a meter‑high opening above the door that made it feel like anyone could climb in. Nobody actually did, but it still felt odd. The bathroom and toilet were on steep stairs on the ground floor. There was an even worse room under the stairs, and a better one with three external windows (one tiny, but still a lovely breeze). We moved into that room, which earned us a 9‑point rating.
