“Peaceful, idyllic base for visiting the Champagne Region”
We found a calm and relaxing base for exploring Reims and the Champagne region. Epoye is a tiny village roughly 20 minutes’ easy drive from Reims and a similar distance to the Champagne Route. The hosts supplied us with very useful tips on where to visit and dine. The property lies just outside the Champagne vineyard area, yet the whole district is picturesque. We stayed in an upstairs apartment with two bedrooms inside a nicely converted farm building. The bedrooms were a good size, beautifully decorated, spotless, and featured an excellent bathroom and shower (with a separate toilet). A kettle and fan were in the room, keeping it comfortably cool during hot weather. The pool was enjoyable, with a small seating area and an adjacent changing room that had a shower and toilet. A grassy area with play equipment for children was also available. Parking was straightforward, which was reassuring after a long journey. Breakfast was very enjoyable and high quality, served at a large communal table in a conservatory. Guests also had access to a communal room with a table, fridge, microwave, toaster, sink, cutlery, and crockery. Shortly after arrival, the hosts served us a cold platter meal here, which was excellent, good value, and exactly what we needed after a long trip (this was arranged beforehand). A few quirks of the property were not clear to us beforehand (apologies to the hosts if they were communicated, but we missed them). There is a small extra charge (2 € per person) for using the pool (we used our own towels, so it wasn’t a towel hire fee). Meal options are available at the property, but it’s best to confirm they’re offered during your stay. We had indicated at booking that we wanted to eat on the property; we were offered a cold platter meal (which was excellent) on the first evening and nothing on the second (possibly due to exceptional circumstances, but this was not communicated until the day we were due to arrive). We were given detailed information about dining options, the nearest being a 10‑minute drive or many places in Reims (Epernay did not seem to offer a good range of dining). The property does not accept credit cards; extras must be paid in cash or by bank transfer. There was some noise between the second bedroom in our apartment and the adjoining apartment.
