Located under a mile from Pontoosuc Lake, the Weathervane Motel in Lanesboro offers air‑conditioned rooms equipped with microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, free Wi‑Fi, cable TV, and en‑suite bathrooms with hairdryers. Guests enjoy a garden, vending machines, and easy access to Balance Rock State Park (2 mi), the Berkshire Museum (10 min drive), and nearby ski areas.

The property was tidy, but we were the only guests with cars, which seemed to set us apart. As soon as we parked, two women stared at us with cigarette smoke hanging over their heads, and the main door was locked—probably for their own safety. I was handed a key and told the room was non‑smoking, yet the smell of smoke hit us immediately. Every neighboring room had full ashtrays on the stoops. The room itself was disappointing: the sheets were stained, and the bed was otherwise mediocre. After a quick decision, we chose to leave and find a different hotel in the area where we felt safer sleeping. I strongly advise removing this motel from any listings.

I needed an affordable place near Dalton, MA for the Mount Greylock Century Challenge bike event, and this last‑minute booking at the Weathervane turned out to be a good find. I was looking for a clean, air‑conditioned room with a shower, bed, fridge, and microwave for an overnight stay, and the Weathervane delivered exactly that. The host was very friendly, and checking in and out was hassle‑free, so I would definitely return. The room, however, was far from modern, and the only other amenities were a microwave, fridge, TV, and coffee maker, which were fine for me. The mattress on the king‑size bed had weak springs on the left side, causing me to slide toward the edge and wake up repeatedly; moving to the middle of the bed improved my sleep. The Weathervane was a clear upgrade from where I stayed in the area last year.

The area was nice and the staff were great, but the property felt dated and run down. Some unsavory guests appeared to have left my partner feeling uneasy.

The setting was cozy and intimate, with simple amenities like AC, coffee, a fridge, and a microwave—perfect for a quick stay. It’s close to Pittsfield and the check‑in/out process was easy. The only downside was the lack of phone signal or Wi‑Fi inside the room.
