“An experience that we will treasure”
It’s an 18th‑century gorgeous cream‑colored stone château, tucked away from a quiet road, surrounded by 20 hectares, with two three‑story guest wings joined centrally by the dining room, library and game room. The location is 30 minutes from Perigueux, 15 minutes from Bergerac. Christophe is a gentle, discreet host who appears magically when needed, but otherwise we felt the château was ours despite a few other friendly guests. Our room “Lucie” on the top floor was tastefully appointed, with a plush bed and a large beautiful bathroom featuring a clawfoot tub, a separate shower, and a WC. A fine breakfast is included, but we also chose dinner on our arrival night. Christophe prepared a menu of fresh fruit, sautéed chanterelles on toast, a salad with three types of tomatoes separated by mozzarella and drizzled with dressing and balsamic vinegar, then a steak or chicken dish served with fries and sautéed vegetables, ending with handmade tiramisu—all handpicked from his own gardens. There is a good wine list, very fairly priced, with good Bergerac examples among them. The pool is fantastic and you can walk through the fields. Christophe is also striving to create a green and efficient operation, with a discreet solar field beyond the château. In short, it’s a magical place. The only downside was that the stairs might be challenging for some guests, but they made great exercise for us! We just wish we could have stayed longer.
