“Quaint, rustic, historic place to stay.”
Burkes Pass was stunning, the heritage trail was both intriguing and picturesque. The whole setup felt like a charming village with fascinating memorabilia and an old‑world vibe. Many items were on sale, offering unique pieces at good prices. The cottage was compact—think caravan size—but perfectly adequate, and we enjoyed the rustic atmosphere. The bonus ciders were a delight! The only drawback was that the bed felt a bit small for us, as we’re used to a king bed, but overall it was a pleasant escape from the crowds in Tekapo. Its close proximity to Fairlie and the beautiful surroundings, as well as Tekapo itself, makes it an ideal spot, and we’d definitely choose it again, especially given the price and the nice coffee on departure.
