The room itself was clean and the host was available to check‑in at night when we arrived by train. The bathroom was terrible—stinkingly bad, the shower had no curtain, water splashed everywhere and never dried, creating a foul odor. The sink was tiny; washing your face meant washing your feet too, which is inconvenient for a short stay. It was about 20 minutes by taxi from the main tourist spot. The host was rude: when we checked in around 3 am he demanded payment immediately, refusing card and insisting on cash. We told him we’d pay the next day, but he pushed us to an ATM. In the morning he knocked on our door to collect the money and tried to enter the room; it was early and we hadn’t had time to withdraw cash. This back‑and‑forth continued until we finally managed to get the cash. He also charged a $6 “registration fee” on top of all other taxes, a first for me in Uzbekistan. The Wi‑Fi was unreliable, there was no family warmth, no breakfast beyond a few fruits on arrival, no laundry service, and no smiles.
