The host and all the staff were wonderfully hospitable. I stayed in the main building, so it had some wear and tear, but the rooms were creatively designed and the tableware was enjoyable to use. Towels, yukata, and water were plentiful, which was especially appreciated for women. I was confused by the confusing explanation of where shampoo and other toiletries were kept, and the food’s saltiness was too high.

Shinsen isn’t just a hotel; it’s a cultural experience of Japanese perfection. The service I received was unlike anything I’ve ever met. The property’s design is delicate and precise, and the experience is worth every yen.

Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and the gentleman didn’t eat beef, so the main dish was a whole lobster, showing the hotel’s careful preparation. I was unexpectedly moved when I saw President Lee Teng‑hui’s calligraphy.

Exceptional! The staff were extremely friendly and we ate very well. The room was beautiful with excellent bedding. It’s located very close to the Takachiho Gorge and the temple where the Yokagura show takes place. The hotel offers a valet service!

Our stay at Ryokan Shinsen was truly unforgettable. My son and I enjoyed every single moment and honestly wished we could have stayed much longer. Everything was absolutely perfect – the warm hospitality, the exceptional service, the beautiful traditional atmosphere and the incredible attention to every little detail. We felt genuinely welcomed, cared for and completely spoiled throughout our stay. The food was simply outstanding. We have travelled a lot, but we can honestly say that we have rarely eaten so incredibly well. Every morning and every evening we were invited to dine in a different private room, where we enjoyed an exquisite 10‑course meal. Every dish was beautifully presented and prepared with such care and passion. It was an unforgettable culinary experience. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special. Although this was a luxury experience and certainly an indulgence for us, every single moment was worth it. We left feeling deeply relaxed, grateful and with memories we will treasure forever. Absolutely nothing was lacking; everything exceeded our expectations. If there is one thing we regret, it is only that we couldn’t stay longer.
