The moment we stepped in, the lady at the front desk made us feel welcome and my kids instantly took a liking to Simone – I did too. The place sits a bit out of Paraty’s historic centre, but that’s actually a plus because it’s close to a bunch of beaches and the boat trips to the island are cheaper from there. If you’re traveling with a pet, be aware the grounds aren’t very pet‑friendly; there are a few resident cats that tend to be pretty feisty.

The host was incredibly welcoming, answering every question right away and making sure we had everything we needed. It felt like staying with a friend rather than a stranger, which is why I’d give it a solid 10.
