“Lovely Hotel in Great Location but Avoid the Overpriced Breakfast”
After living in Hong Kong for half our lives, staying in a hotel felt different from what we were used to; now that we live in Europe, we came to check on our house and handle some medical matters. We chose the hotel because our house is near Taipo and Shatin is just a short train ride away, offering more than Taipo. We booked a room with a river view, and even though it rained almost every day during our two‑week stay, the view was nice. Outside the hotel there are walks and bike paths around the river and beyond, making it easy and safe to escape for some fresh air. The rooms were very large, the huge bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the power shower—though not a rainforest—was excellent. A mini‑bar with tea and coffee supplies was great. We were very happy to have our room cleaned daily by ah‑Bee, a lovely lady who we could chat with despite our broken Cantonese and her decent English; she was constantly cleaning, whether in the room or in the corridors. There was zero noise from other rooms, so we could relax. The excellent Wi‑Fi speed made FaceTiming with family in Europe a breeze. Being located in a massive shopping mall with an MTR link, everything we needed was within a short walk, and we’re sure we’ll stay there again on our next visit. The breakfast cost was ludicrous, and with many food outlets in the mall and connected malls we never planned to eat breakfast at the hotel. We met a client one morning for breakfast there, and if you’re not a local or visiting from across the border, don’t pay for breakfast unless you want Chinese food, because the western options are extremely limited and poorly presented. That morning was spoiled by screaming kids whose parents thought it was lovely that their kids made so much noise. The restaurant was chaotic and the only thing that tasted anything like it should have was the toast. The staff seemed bored, and they left most of the plates of food on the table after they had left. It’s amazing that a high‑quality hotel like this could fail on something as simple as breakfast, but unfortunately they did. The swimming pool was nice, but being indoor/outdoor it closed when a thunderstorm warning was issued. The changing rooms were clean but almost devoid of signage, and the locker doors had no instructions on how to lock the keypad.
