The bathroom had no door, the showers and toilets weren’t private, and there were dirty towels on the floor and cigarette butts on the window in our bedroom. We did not stay.

I liked the location, not too far from the bus and near the water – a good spot to catch the ferry to explore Newcastle. The meals were delicious and there was a café. I did miss having tea and coffee making facilities in the room for an early cup.

The vibe of the old pub was great, and the location and views were excellent. The bed was very comfy and the room was a good size. The staff were very friendly. I was disappointed that there wasn’t a common room like many old pubs have, where you could store food and have a refrigerator. I have coeliac, so I had to bring my own food. A common room would also have a TV and a couple of chairs instead of just sitting on the bed. Wi‑Fi was advertised, but it only worked downstairs. My bed didn’t have a warm blanket, so I felt cold on the first night and had to wear my jumper. I didn’t want the AC running all night, so I told the staff the next morning, but by the time I went to bed a blanket still hadn’t arrived. I had to find one myself in the empty room across from mine, which made me feel uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to spend another night feeling cold.

The local pub was great, with good food and a nice atmosphere. The location near the water was convenient. It would be better if the rooms had windows that could be opened.
