The room wasn’t cleaned properly.

The cupboards were broken and there were no instructions for the TV or hotel amenities. No phone instructions were provided. The bathtub drain was very old, the chrome was worn off, the wall heating didn’t work, and wiring was exposed on the floor. The air‑conditioning unit was by the window, and the bathroom fan was loud. Towels were stiff and small, and the light bulb by the bed was out.

I booked because the book Expo was happening right there, so that was convenient. When we tried to check in at 3:00, they told us we were on the 4th floor but the elevator was out of order, which was impossible for my 71‑year‑old knees. Eventually they found an unoccupied room on the first floor for the same $241, but it hadn’t been cleaned and there were three rooms ahead that still needed work. They handed us a key card and asked us to wait an hour. We left and came back at 4:30; the front desk was busy so we opened the room ourselves, but it still hadn’t been touched. We went back to the lobby to wait and watched a female staff member walk down the wing where our room was, carrying a spray bottle of pink fluid and folded towels, and she never returned. At about 5:30 we were told the room was ready. The bathroom had clean towels, but when we sat on the bed it was damp; we pulled off the bedcover and discovered the comforter and sheets were also damp. We turned up the heat and dried them so we could lie on them, but we only slept under the comforter because the sheets clearly hadn’t been changed. The next morning we found hair in the shower drain. I expected more for $241.

Getting close to the highway made traveling a breeze. The broken elevator was a nasty surprise when we were assigned to the 3rd floor; meeting someone in the stairwell on the 5th floor, we were shocked to learn it had been down for two weeks. All four pillows on the bed were flat, which made both my wife and me sleep poorly.
