Sumiyoshi Ryokan, a historic townhouse in Takayama’s heart, sits a minute from Miyagawa Morning Market and a 12‑minute walk to JR Takayama Station. Guests enjoy tatami rooms with futon bedding, free Wi‑Fi, and a low table with satellite TV. The inn features a spacious public bath, Japanese garden, antique displays, and a multi‑course Hida Beef sukiyaki dinner.

Everything was perfect! The family was very helpful! The dinner was delicious! The breakfast was a bit tough 🫠 better the continental one. A super stay.

An unforgettable experience, like staying in your grandparents’ house but in Japan, in a typical house, eating their food, etc. The only less positive thing is that you share common spaces and have to adapt to the set breakfast and dinner times, but it’s still a place I would return to and recommend.
