I had a wonderful stay. The room was clean and spacious, the bathroom facilities worked flawlessly, and breakfast was always varied and tasty. The staff were courteous and always ready to help. Nothing was lacking; the trip met all my expectations.

We started from Niigata and headed toward Echigo-Yuzawa, stopping for a day in Uonuma. There weren’t many lodging options there, so we found this uniquely rustic Japanese accommodation that felt like a countryside night out. We arrived late at night, which was a bit scary, but seeing the farmer drive to work in the morning was soothing, and the scenery was very pleasant. The only issue was that a door separated our room from the kitchen, and the sound insulation was poor, so we could hear staff preparing breakfast in the morning. The door couldn’t be locked, which was fine that day because no other guests were around; otherwise, it would have been a bit concerning. If only women were staying, I’d be less inclined to recommend it—having more people traveling together would provide better protection before booking.

The lunch was undoubtedly spectacular. The room was very spacious and the beds were super comfortable. The location isn’t ideal for public transport; driving is fine, but walking through the rice fields and hearing cars and trucks on the highway was a bit noisy. The noise was very noticeable.

The staff—especially the young lady—had wonderful consideration. The only drawback is that, being a private house, it feels different from a hotel or ryokan, so some guests might be confused if they expect a typical inn experience.

Breakfast was beautiful, and the staff explained the organic rice and other ingredients. The house and room weren’t locked. Even though the area is generally safe, the news often reports organized crime in the countryside, so I was a little on alert while sleeping, especially since I was with my daughter.
