A short history
Veterinarian Dr. Alexander John Chandler bought 18,000 acres of desert land in 1891 and constructed an advanced canal irrigation network. The town was platted in 1912 with a central park surrounded by colonnades, designed for agriculture and ostrich farming. Semiconductor manufacturing in the late 20th century transformed suburban farms into high-tech industrial parks.
