history
Midrand developed as Halfway House, named for its location halfway between the gold-mining city of Johannesburg and the administrative capital of Pretoria. Stagecoaches changed horses here in the late nineteenth century. The area transitioned from agricultural plot land into a high-technology industrial corridor during the 1980s, capped by rapid modern development following the 2011 arrival of the Gautrain.
