Aswadduma Hotel

“Great place. But essential services need to be upgraded.”

A beautifully designed property in a jungle near Dambulla with impressive architecture, very comfortable rooms, and a vast land that adds to the peaceful vibe; the nearby lake offers a great view, especially when you walk closer to it. What I didn’t like was the lack of internet and TV – the team said they were disconnected because of weak signals, but a dedicated antenna could fix it. Also, the restaurant doesn’t offer the full menu, probably because of low guest numbers. The place has huge potential, but there seems to be little effort to market it and attract more guests, which is key for justifying essential improvements like proper connectivity and full service.

“Von der Buchung bis zim Ende miserabel - Dies mitten im Dschungel”

Nothing good; the hotel was closed for a corporate holiday despite my booking confirmation. After a 30‑minute drive off the main road over a shaky path, I stood with my Uber in front of the closed door. The security guard shrugged it off, saying “this happens, I’m not the first.” They’ll reopen in a month.

“Disastrous”

It’s a nice property in the middle of nowhere. Many things. This building is half finished with wires coming out of the roof, water leaking, and mould in the rooms. Because of its location there are no other food options so I asked if we could organise dinner/drinks with them on check in and they said no problem. When it came to dinner time they were completely disorganised and kept saying things would be another 5-10 mins. They had no beer/wine as initially said and had to send someone into town to collect it. It took around 1 1/2 hours to get a drink and food which was very frustrating as we had no other options. During dinner the power went off and we had giant lamps shone in our face which was bizarre. Luckily, we were able to change our booking to one night only and move to another hotel the next day. Upon checkout we tried to make payment and the reception guy didn’t know how to work the eftpos machine. We eventually showed him how to use it and then there was no reception to process the payment. He wanted us to go to one of their other hotels to pay which was completely out of our way and our driver was waiting for us. Eventually, we had to leave and then we were hounded for payment from them for the next few days. They even called our driver when we were in Kandy and wanted him to bring cash to them. We stayed in some amazing hotels in Sri Lanka and this was by far the worst. Please beware of staying at this hotel so you don’t have to experience what we went through. We eventually made a bank transfer to them after much duress

The place is in a great spot and the vibe is chill, with a friendly crew. The hotel is still under renovation, so it doesn’t feel like a five‑star spot.

Vorsicht! Die Bilder entsprechen nicht der Realität. Einige Pools sind stillgelegt, und das Hauptpool war einfach nur dreckig. Auch die Zimmer waren nicht sauber – Finger weg! Das einzig Gute war das Frühstück, mehr nicht
