“A lodge with enormous potential, provided it received at least minimal maintenance. It doesn't.”
The daughter at reception was friendly, the rooms were spacious, the beds were comfy, and the hairdryer was very good. We stayed one night in the middle of a trip from Dover to Cornwall and had planned to return a week later on the way back. The first impression was good, but closer inspection revealed cobwebs everywhere, dead flies in the cobwebs by the window above the stairs, dirty carpets, a second‑hand fridge that still had packing tape inside, a disassembled computer under the table, a messy view from the windows with a broken outdoor table, spray cans and a bra (?) on the chairs by the covered pool, and crooked lampshades. Most importantly, there was a body imprint on the bottom sheet of our bed and the pillowcase smelled like another person, which is totally unacceptable. We covered everything with sheets from the cupboard and slept like that. The next morning the owner tried to convince us that the bedding was clean, but we didn’t believe it, didn’t want to leave, and fortunately got a refund for the second night so we could find a cleaner option. The only blemish on an otherwise perfect holiday in Cornwall.
