The first hostel I hit on the Camino turned out to be the coziest spot around, and I loved every detail. The owners welcomed me like family, walked me through the place, and answered any question I had. The house was spotless, with a small kitchen where I could cook, and the garden under a lemon tree was perfect for meals. I appreciated having several shower cabins and toilets on each floor, so I never waited, and the water pressure was great—no warm‑up delay, which felt like pure bliss after a long walk. The bed was comfortable and clean, with no bedbugs, and there were only four beds in the room. A laundry area at the back of the garden let me hand‑wash, and a self‑service laundry was just a 2‑minute walk away. Plus, three cats roamed the hostel, so I got to pet them for free. The only downside was that I’m a light sleeper and the cars passing by made some noise; the dormitory window was open for fresh air.

This was one of my favorite stays on the Camino! The hostel had a stylish vibe, comfy beds, immaculate linens, and a warm blanket. The staff were wonderful; I don’t remember the name of the male caretaker, but he was fantastic—helpful, answered all questions, and joked around. He even fixed my orthopedic insole with double‑sided tape when it came off. We joked about the weather—he tried to predict a heavy rain across Portugal on Tuesday, but there was no rain, probably because he crossed his fingers too. The kitchen was neat and convenient; I was exhausted after a tough stretch, but the kitchen still had leftover pasta from other pilgrims to cook. The courtyard was charming, with a big lemon tree and string lights, and pilgrims left little stones with drawings—very cozy. Plenty of confident cats added to the homely feel. The shower was tidy and comfortable, even had a seat for personal items inside the cabin. Inside the rooms, there were lockers for backpacks—no locks, so just bring your own if you need one.

I was lucky enough to secure a private room with a bathroom. Everything was clean, and the facilities included a small shared kitchen and a large yard with a covered area for rain. The host was very helpful and made me feel welcomed. I arrived a little later than expected, and everything in town was closed. It was my first day on the Camino, so I wasn’t prepared. I rushed to the food store a few doors down, which was closing in minutes, and grabbed whatever I could find to eat that night.
