The owner was friendly and the place was close to where I needed to be. The house is still being renovated and looks very run down: dirty carpets, a broken window, a TV that doesn’t work, a shower that could be either scorching hot or freezing cold, spider webs everywhere, dirty walls, beds from the 1970s—there are countless problems with this place.

The location was quiet. The property was quite run down with a lot of personal belongings left around; it needs new carpets and a thorough cleaning.

The man did his best once he realized we were booked in. The place was dirty, as if it had been wrecked by a massive party; the bed was broken, other furniture and doors were old and broken too, and the carpets and walls were stained and grimy.

I liked the landlord, who was very friendly, and the room was big enough for a young family. The location was close to the MOD site I was heading to as well as Lincoln and other attractions, so I felt it offered good value for money because it was relatively cheap for a large room. I didn’t like the stain on the bedside table, the lack of hot water for a shower (I was told the night before that it would need to be heated early), the unclear instructions for using the shower, and the trouble with the TV: I had to download an LG remote app, the first one I tried required payment to use it properly, the second didn’t connect, the third connected but only had Netflix and BBC iPlayer pre‑loaded, and I couldn’t link my own Netflix account; iPlayer also didn’t stay connected. The room was freezing when I entered because a window was left open while it was snowing outside; the radiator didn’t work, but an electric heater did if I left it on all the time to warm the large room.
