“Basic budget hotel close to train station but needs to improve security”
This basic budget hotel sits close to the train station and the airport shuttle bus, which is why we chose it and didn't plan to stay long. Breakfast was adequate for the space available, and although not much food was on display, staff replenished it quickly so guests had enough. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable for a budget hotel. We stayed twice: once mid‑week at the start of our holiday and again for two nights at the end (Sat/Sun). If we had experienced the issues of the second stay on the first night, we wouldn't have returned. The first stay was fine; we were on a high floor and it wasn’t too noisy, and breakfast was acceptable. It did what we needed—a quick overnight stay after a flight near the train station for the next day. Before the second stay, I received a scam WhatsApp message claiming to be from the hotel. When we checked in, I told the hotel about it and they said they were aware of a data breach but assured us not to worry; they only had the name and phone number, no other details. When I mentioned they knew the exact dates of our stay, they acknowledged it, which felt like more had been breached than they let on, and they weren’t very apologetic (I understand these things happen, but it felt a bit lacking). When leaving the hotel you hand your keys to the receptionist or drop them in a box. After we went out, we were met by a different receptionist who handed our key over without asking for our name or any details. The reception didn’t always seem staffed, so it didn’t feel very secure. We bolt‑locked the door when we left on Sunday, but the cleaner didn’t do this and left it as it was. It was still locked, but we had added extra locks because we didn’t feel the hotel was very secure. All Saturday night there were comings and goings on our floor—doors opening (not quietly) and closing constantly, which kept my husband awake and felt very dodgy. Because it was Saturday night, there were also police sirens and outside noise was more noticeable. This was not as bad on Sunday. I’ve never left a review like this for a hotel before, but I think the hotel needs to consider its security more closely.
