The room, the food, the stunning site, and the welcome were all great.
“Auf der Durchreise , eine Übernachtung”
The staff were very nice, the breakfast was excellent, the room was well equipped, and the Wi‑Fi was good. The bed was too soft for us, but that’s purely a matter of taste.
“Excellent value for money.”
The staff were amazing. I booked dinner, bed, and breakfast. The evening meal was great and they accommodated my food allergy. The guest card is amazing, giving free public transport, cable cars, and museums. There were plenty of places to unpack. The bathroom light is sensor‑based, so even a reasonably short shower leaves you in the dark in an unfamiliar room. A couple of hangers on the coat rack would help; our coats got soaked and didn’t dry well on the hooks provided.
“Awful night”
We found two really positive points that deserve mention: the hotel sits in a genuinely beautiful area, surrounded by wonderful mountain scenery and close to the ski lifts, which is definitely a major advantage, and breakfast was very good, with staff who were extremely friendly, welcoming, and pleasant—definitely one of the best parts of our stay. On the downside, we’re frequent travelers who don’t usually complain about small things or expect luxury, and we normally pick places rated 8 or above. Seeing an 8.3 rating with no alarming reviews, we booked this hotel for one night to rest after a long drive before continuing the next morning. We understood it was meant to be a simple accommodation, but at about €115 per night in a small town and roughly 1.5 km from the centre, it wasn’t exactly cheap. We didn’t expect what we found, even though the room cost considerably less. The first thing we noticed when entering the room was a very strong and unpleasant smell that could have been cigarette smoke, dampness, mould, or a mix of those; the air felt extremely humid and stale, and even the bed linen felt damp. The TV remote was broken, and the batteries looked as though they hadn’t been changed for a very long time—they were practically leaking. The wardrobe was broken, and the bathroom sink was cracked. We could have tolerated all of this for just one night, but the final straw was the towels. They were clean but extremely old, faded, and torn, looking more like cleaning cloths than guest towels, so we didn’t even want to shower. The biggest issue was the dampness and smell in the room. During the night we struggled to sleep and had to keep opening the balcony door to air the room, so we barely slept and woke up exhausted before another long day of driving. Wi‑Fi was another problem; the information provided made it impossible to figure out which network to use.
The location was good, even though it’s in the hills; staying a bit higher up gave us great views. There’s a bike rack with charging options. Breakfast was fine. The biggest advantage was the summer card. Even though we received a free upgrade to the main building, which was a pleasant surprise, the bathroom had motion‑sensor lighting. I’m not sure if it’s in other rooms, but it’s a really stupid idea. During a longer bathroom session the light turns off, and the bathroom entrance is directly opposite the bed, so at night it lights up the whole room, including the bed, and automatically turns on the fan, because neither the light nor the fan can be controlled manually… awful. The evenings were pleasant. The desserts were the biggest disappointment. It seemed the hotel was missing a pastry chef and the cook refused to bake anything. For breakfast the sweet items were mainly from Ölze. I like them at home, but not in the hotel? The dessert at dinner was also weak. One day we got those little doughnuts filled with whipped cream that are sold frozen. The cook just pulled them out and drizzled chocolate syrup over them. They were still frozen inside. That’s not something that belongs in a better hotel.
