The Heidehotel Hildfeld, a family-run hotel in Winterberg's Hildfeld, offers a spacious spa with an indoor pool and scenic views of the Upper Sauerland Mountains. Individually decorated rooms with hill views, a restaurant serving regional cuisine, and amenities like a sauna, steam bath, solarium, fitness room, and bowling alley make it a unique retreat. Freshly prepared breakfast buffets and self-made honey are highlights.

The place was quiet and off the beaten path, and the pool was nice. I only booked nights, so I couldn't comment on anything else.

Very nice, helpful staff, but the hotel is very old.

The location outside Winterberg was quiet and lovely, with plenty of hiking options; the rooms were spacious, clearly newly renovated, and the beds comfortable, while the pool water was nicely warm. Breakfast was okay but the rolls were a bit too hard, and at €17.50 it felt a little pricey. We weren’t told about the wellness area on arrival, so we only learned about the outdoor sauna when we left, and the steam bath was cold and unusable. The hotel was noisy and thin‑walled, with doors constantly slamming, and the restaurant was so loud at breakfast that conversation was difficult, even though there was enough seating that could have been better arranged. We didn’t try dinner because only a three‑course menu was offered, and the pricing was confusing with no price lists or notices, and the website gave little information. Overall, the wellness break was not what we expected.

The hotel’s setting, breakfast spread, building’s look and the tasty wine were definite pluses. However, it sits in the middle of nowhere, the restaurant only opens after 16:00, and the whole place feels dated with overdue maintenance; the sofa‑bed lacked a proper mattress, making it uncomfortable for teens who even asked for an extra €29 per night. We had to improve the bedding ourselves, which didn’t go unnoticed. The shower couldn’t hold a steady temperature, the pool showed a greenish film, the Turkish steam room was dead, and sauna lights dangled loose. The old German décor was shabby because it wasn’t cleaned everywhere, the windows fogged up with flies buzzing around, spider webs gathered in corners, and the air smelled stale. All in all, it was far too pricey for what we received, and the restaurant’s limited hours didn’t help.
