“Close to perfect overall”

The room was adequately appointed and very comfortable, but a few communication issues arose: I was told the wifi code but there was no written record of it in the room or anywhere else that I could see, so I couldn't face going back down two flights of stairs to ask again. I was told I could eat either in the bar or restaurant; since no one else was in the restaurant I opted for the bar, but the food selection on the table menu was very limited.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bar had a great atmosphere, yet the room was clean but clearly in need of a makeover.

“Excellent location. Plenty of restaurants around. Sadly the Half Moon needs a lot of refurbishment.”

Excellent location, but breakfast was somewhat spartan; although the menu lists various options we found they were not necessarily available, and the cooked English was OK. The dining area had wallpaper peeling in our bedroom, carpet frayed in places, and it felt more like a pub with rooms than a hotel. The bathroom was very dim, with only one downlighter for the bathroom, and the shaver light/socket did not work; no attempt was made to repair it during our stay, even though we pointed out the problem.

Beautiful town & Abbey, yet the room was pokey, windows were filthy, the bath & shower curtain felt so yesterday, breakfast was uninspiring, the toilet seat didn't stay up, and there were lots of little things that make this below par.

Staff were good and helpful, but the common parts need attention and some TLC. Despite being told the parking was free and registering our car reg at reception to ensure that we did, ourselves and other guests received a subsequent parking notice from Premier Park in Exeter saying we did not pay for our stay in the car park and wanted a £100 fine. This was sorted out by Craig the assistant manager and our notice was cancelled.
