“Не плохой отель на короткое время (2-3 дня).”
We visited Unawatuna with my husband in April because the sea was calm and the reef broke the waves, making swimming easy. I chose the hotel based on mixed reviews, assuming the negative ones were isolated, but now I see a pattern of poor service. First, the Booking site showed a price that already included a 10 % service fee, yet the hotel told us we’d have to pay another 10 % on top when using a credit card, claiming it was a service charge, so we paid cash instead. Then I experienced petty theft: I left my flip‑flops outside the room to avoid sand, and the little plastic plugs vanished—a minor thing but very unpleasant, and later I read other guests reporting missing car plugs, shorts left to dry, etc., suggesting a systemic issue. The housekeeping staff would come in to clean while we were returning from the beach, even though the key was left at reception all day; if we didn’t open the door they would knock insistently, forcing us to pause our rest or shower to let them in, which felt disrespectful. After the owner intervened, cleaning finally happened when we weren’t present. Breakfast was good for the first two days—well‑made coffee, smoothies, hot pancakes, omelets—but then they started serving odd soups and the coffee quality dropped. After the owner stepped in, breakfasts became more consistent. Overall the owner offers a decent package for a budget price: linen changed twice daily, towels refreshed daily, trash taken out, two bottles of water per day, and coffee, tea, sugar and cream in the room. He tries to address issues and protect the hotel’s reputation, but the staff still have shortcomings.
