The hotel sits right in the centre, perfect for a stopover before the Ijen trek, and the lively square outside lets you soak up local life; the shallow pool is pleasant, though the nearby mosque’s prayer calls can be loud depending on your room’s location, which didn’t bother us for a single night.

The photos on Booking were completely misleading; the cleanliness was absent with dirty, stained sheets clearly used by previous guests, and when I asked for a room change the staff showed me other rooms with the same filthy linens—luckily my stay lasted only a few hours, but I strongly advise against it.

The location and staff were good, but the bed was very hard, the cleaning—especially the toilet—could be better, the pool water was dirty, a common island issue, and the 3 a.m./4 a.m. prayers at full volume will wake you up in any hotel.
