Our stay at Hotel Agia Markella was simply wonderful; the hotel’s cleanliness, location, and peaceful atmosphere impressed us, but what made the holiday truly unforgettable was the incredible hospitality of the owner of the world‑class dessert shop, whose sincerity, smile, and attentive care made us feel at home; when we return to the island of Chios we’ll definitely stay here again, thank you for everything.

They gave us free breakfast on top of the plumbing issue. The rooms were very old and uncomfortable, and the pool didn’t look like the pictures. In the two rooms we stayed, there was no shower cabin; after we complained they installed one. There were even no slippers in the rooms.

Right outside the hotel you can jump into the sea without paying for a sun lounger or umbrella, and even when the water is choppy elsewhere, this cove stays calm. The sea has occasional sand and stones of various sizes, so I found it easier to walk in with flip‑flops. The owners were friendly and did everything they could to make guests comfortable. We arrived before check‑in time, the room was ready, and because it was available they upgraded us to a sea‑view room for free. At checkout we were handed small gifts. Very hospitable. The building is old, so the wooden window frames and shutters can make noise in the wind; it didn’t bother us, but it might disturb light sleepers.

This old hotel gives a nostalgic vibe, but the owners and staff are great. Don’t expect luxury, but you’ll enjoy the stay.
