The host was incredibly kind, and the place had a huge common area with a sound system, a library, a kitchen, and a courtyard, but only four rooms, so we mostly felt like we were the only ones in the whole house with its front and back yards. Besides the old‑world charm and the thoughtful Tainan décor, I especially loved the owner’s book collection, which was spot on (including comics!). Whenever we had free time, the whole family would sit at the big table in the indoor common space, eat Tainan snacks we’d brought, and listen to our own CD collection on the surround sound—so relaxing. Every morning the housekeeper would bring a beautifully arranged platter of different Tainan snacks, all included in the room rate, which was amazing. The only thing that could be improved is the key system: our door lock was a very old‑style key, like those you see on century‑old wardrobes or windows in Europe, but it was a bit hard to use and made a lot of noise when opening or closing the door—just a minor issue.

The old house was clean and filled with the natural scent of wood from the building materials, the courtyard was beautiful, it had all the modern amenities, the bathroom was great, and the breakfast was tasty local food.
