Nice location – plenty of parking and close to the ropeway. Breakfast and dinner were good, a kids’ bed was available, and the whole tatami experience was enjoyable. The garden by the onsen was beautiful. The room had some wear on walls and furniture, but it still felt clean. Service was very polite and formal, which sometimes felt stiff and a bit over‑cautious. It wasn’t unfriendly, but it did make relaxing meals feel slightly off. Every night we had to sign an allergy form, which felt inefficient and more about protecting the hotel than being helpful.

“Great place, however need to be aware of certain things”

We picked this place because it offered a private onsen in the room, and we loved it! The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of amenities, and the staff were polite and welcoming. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but a few points stand out. The shuttle to the station wasn’t running early in the morning, which would have been handy for an early departure. The breakfast selection differed from what we’re used to, making it hard to find something suitable; a few more options for guests who don’t favor very savory morning fare would help. The hotel sits on a hill, so walking up is a steep climb. After dinner it feels pleasant, but with luggage it’s quite a challenge.

The private onsen on the terrace was great, yet we expected a truly authentic Japanese experience and felt disappointed by the mountain‑top location; without a car you have to rely on public transport, so we had to take a taxi from the Audawera station, which cost a lot, and we felt we paid too much for what we got.
