There was no TV, the picture quality was poor, and it was very cold.

Nothing. I arrived at 17.30 on 15 October to be told that no rooms were now available. I booked 4 days earlier and no contact was made with me to inform me before I set off on my 100 mile+ journey. I eventually found accommodation at Travelodge Alfreton some 9 miles from my destination. The whole experience was very distressing and costly

The hotel was very close to the shops, so if you needed anything it was all nearby. The bedding was absolutely filthy and the room didn’t feel cleaned; there was an empty beer can inside the bathroom cupboard on arrival, and under the bed and chair was filthy. The first night there was a horrible sewage smell and people were playing loud music. The staff weren’t at the desk, and there was a note saying to ring the number if no one was at the desk, but they just put the phone down. I felt uncomfortable walking back and forth to my mum’s room to see her because there were men constantly lingering around; it felt more like a hostel where they let people stay when they come out of prison, and I felt intimidated at times. On pictures the place looked decent, but reality was not. It’s a shame because it could have been a nice place, especially being so close to the bus station and train station, close to everything.

The location was close to public transport, shops, and town. The room smelled musty and moldy; the wall paper was taped together by the window, the carpet was dirty, and the shower was soiled. The furniture had marks, and I was very cold in bed because the mattress topper had a duvet cover on it. I also found a tea towel, a sock, and a pair of black period knickers behind the radiator in front of the window and left them there because I didn’t know what I might catch from handling them. When I went to the desk for staff, nobody was around, and when I rang the number they told me to ring, they just hung up. I was very surprised this place hasn’t been closed down, and the number of men lingering around made me feel very uncomfortable. They stank of weed and were watching me every time I walked down the stairs to go out for something to eat, and they were still there when I came back. It felt more like a place where they let prisoners go when they come out.

The bed was comfortable and it couldn't have been any closer to the station. When we were first given the keys to our room, there were still someone else's clothes in the wardrobe. There was also a wall light over the bed that had been partially ripped out of the wall and was without a bulb. There was also quite a bit of mould in the shower cubicle and the floor in the bathroom didn't look clean. We also had someone trying the door to our room at about 2:30am
