A few minutes' walk from the old street bus station in Jieufen, the hostel was clean, the washrooms were tidy, and free tea and coffee were provided; the bed made a little squeaky noise.

It’s just 20 steps from the main business street and about 200 from the iconic view. The building is very old and the beds aren’t comfortable.

The staff were very friendly and the location was excellent, right in the heart of Jiufen, close to good restaurants, the 7‑Eleven, and the bus stops. The property was clean. I arrived before check‑in time and couldn’t get in, and I received no response to my contact; eventually a guest let me in so I could drop my bags, but if it hadn’t been for that kind guest, I would have had nowhere to store my luggage for four hours and would have been stuck. Unfortunately, the room was unbearably hot and the air‑conditioning remote didn’t work; I asked the volunteer, who said it couldn’t be adjusted, so I had a terrible night’s sleep. Also, it’s the first hostel in 11 months where you make and strip your own bed.
