Oue Werf Country House

I booked Oue Werf Guesthouse for my parents and they loved it. The place was spacious and matched the photos exactly. Their room had dressing gowns, towels, clean bedding, and a kitchenette with a microwave, small fridge, kettle, and sink. The weather was bad that weekend, so they missed the pool. Breakfast was available in the restaurant but wasn’t included in the booking; it was a bit pricey and I wasn’t given a quote beforehand. My husband and I stayed at Buffelsdrift, about 4 km away, and I think its breakfast buffet offers better value with a wider selection and a beautiful view. Booking in advance is required. I’d definitely recommend Oue Werf for a comfortable stay, but based on my parents’ breakfast experience, I’d suggest looking at other nearby dining options.

“A few comfort tweeks could enhance a lovely environment”

The gardens and location were beautiful, good for scenic drives to the Cango Caves, ostrich farms, a nearby winery, and a Biblical garden. I heard there are hikes in the area, but I didn’t verify them. For the price it felt shabby; it seemed the owners hadn’t lived in the unit. I asked for two single beds but had to arrange that on arrival. The bathroom door didn’t close, there was only one bathrobe for two people, bedside lamps were out of reach, and not all electrical points were usable. The coffee machine was in an impractical spot and there was no bread knife. Insects bit us and we didn’t have any spray, so a more welcoming touch would have helped.
