“Staying in the landlord's spare bedroom”
The location is very good, close to Borough station and bus stops. The bathroom is large, the nights are quiet, the bed is comfortable, the shower works well, and the price is relatively moderate for central London. On the downside, you’re renting an en‑suite bedroom in the landlord’s private apartment, and the guestroom still had some of the landlord’s personal items—clothes, shoes, textiles—left behind. The outside space is sparsely furnished with two garden chairs and a table, but you’re surrounded by 4–5 floors of buildings with a view of a blank white wall. The whole place sits one level below street level, away from the street, and you access it via an unfinished concrete staircase that lacks a proper handrail; a moped partially blocks the upper end of the stairs, which isn’t helpful. The courtyard has no exit. The bathroom shows signs of damp—flaking paint and plaster—and on the morning of our last night we woke at 7:45 to a significant amount of water dripping from the bathroom light fitting onto the floor.
