The room was decent. However, the bathrooms and kitchen were dirty, the common areas were always crowded, the refrigerators were full, and there was a lot of disorganization.

“Our worst hostel experience.”

The front desk staff were the only positives: warm, helpful, and full of good suggestions. The private room felt like a nightmare—black mold on the walls, a damp stench, no air conditioning, and a small fan that did nothing to clear the air. The bathroom was poorly ventilated, so any odors stayed in the bedroom. Everything seemed dirty and poorly maintained: the shower floor and curtain were broken, water pooled on the floor, and the water was lukewarm, never hot enough to stand on. We avoided the shared bathroom because it lacked toilet paper, and we could hear water running in the plumbing whenever people upstairs used the bathroom, even at night. Two kitchens existed; one was filthy with plates, utensils, and sponges we didn’t want to touch, while the other was slightly better. One side of the bed was against the wall, making it awkward to get out. Wi‑Fi was almost unusable, and there was no cell reception. We paid to shower, use bathrooms, and get ready elsewhere, and we had to wash our clothes after staying because of the smell. We left around 6:30 a.m. and returned around 11:30 p.m. to minimize our time there. When we complained about the mold, we were told another couple had stayed for a month—this didn’t address our room’s condition. We paid for a private room and organized our stay around avoiding it. Never again.

“Bien, pero sin más.”

The location, price, and the friendliness of the receptionists were good. The noise from the pipes, the shower, the towels, the natural light from the ceiling, and overall quality were a bit low. I’m comparing this hostel to hotels, but it feels over‑crowded; the space is too packed and a bit oppressive.

I spent several weeks at this hostel and liked it a lot. It’s only 2 minutes from Las Canteras beach, and everything else is within walking distance. I booked a private room with a street‑facing window, and the ocean breeze kept it cool. The common areas stayed clean, and the hostel had a great vibe. The staff and owner were friendly and welcoming. The beach and surf spots are so close that it’s a perfect surfing spot.
