The place feels downright unsafe – the owners and their “volunteers” kept demanding extra cash from guests, and a neighbor who lives next door actually came up to the hostel gate and started shouting at me, calling me a prostitute and threatening to take pictures. The whole atmosphere was heavy and hostile, so I wouldn’t send anyone there, especially a solo female traveler.

I was pretty disappointed – the room looked nothing like the photos, and there was nothing else to recommend. It’s basically a mismatch between what’s advertised and what you actually get.

Hostel Samba blew me away – right in Estácio, you’re close to everything and you can feel the samba spirit in the air. The staff made you feel at home from the moment you walked in, the rooms were clean, Wi‑Fi worked fine, and the vibe was super friendly. I’ll definitely be back.

The only thing that’s decent here is the location, but everything else fell apart – the room and common areas were filthy, with ants and even cockroaches crawling around, which is a health hazard. When I complained, the receptionist was rude and didn’t help, and the whole place was noisy and felt unsafe. The photos online were misleading, so I can’t recommend this hostel to families or anyone looking for basic cleanliness.

It’s close to the Sambadrome, which is handy, but the rest just isn’t worth it – the hostel looks like it’s never been swept, full of cockroaches, and the single bathroom was disgusting when I arrived, even the toilet paper holder was dirty. Staff were friendly enough, but I saw the owner yelling at a guest for not saying goodbye, and the pictures online turned out to be AI‑generated.
