The Berghotel Steiger in Schneeberg, Erzgebirge Mountains, offers spacious rooms with cable TV, private bathrooms, and free Wi-Fi. The non-smoking hotel features a spa, traditional Saxon cuisine, and a restaurant serving regional dishes, vegetarian options, and local game. A pet-friendly hotel, it welcomes guests with dogs. Varied breakfast buffets and hiking, cycling opportunities are available in the historic town.

The breakfast buffet was limited to the essentials, perhaps because there were few guests. The toilet still had the previous occupants’ mess, and under the rim there was grime from "generations."

Despite everything, it has a certain “DDR” charm, and the location is truly nice. However, everything is very old, the furniture is outdated and unattractive, dirty carpets everywhere—very unsuitable for a dog hotel. In the smaller rooms the bathroom is a box with a steep step, a real tripping hazard for less fit people. The breakfast was so bad that we skipped it.

Friendly, centrally located, great for exploring the sights around the Ore Mountains.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, but after four visits in the last 20 years I was shocked to see nothing updated – everything is falling apart, the bathroom tiles are covered in black mould in the grout, so I left very disappointed and won’t be returning, which is a shame for the family.

A very nice hotel, quiet with a view of Schneeberg. Everything feels family‑like and cozy. The real star is the dog: bowls with surprises in the room, homemade treats in the foyer, towels, fur, and paw wipes for rainy weather. The dog is treated with great respect, and there’s even a special menu for him. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. I also recommend dining at the restaurant; it tastes great and the value matches the price. The owners are very friendly, even to people 😊. I’ve never experienced a dog vacation like this before; it’s truly unique.
