“muss nicht nochmal sein”
The location was central in Oxfordshire, making it easy to reach various spots, and parking was convenient. The breakfast could be skipped, the staff barely spoke English, and everything felt a bit run‑down.

I was only pleased that the bed sheets were clean, but everything else was awful. The cigarette smell in the bar and the room was overwhelming, showing that people smoke inside all the time. The lock on the door was flimsy, so as a lone female I felt unsafe and had to prop furniture against it before sleeping. The bathroom was a disaster: hair, dust, cobwebs, limescale and mold on the shower, and the drains looked like they’d been released by the Umbrella Corporation—so I skipped the shower. The toilet had skid marks. The bedroom was only reachable by a short set of stairs that were pitch black because the light didn’t work, so I left the bathroom light on and the door open to see. The cigarette stench hit you as soon as you entered. Four switches on the wall, only one working. Walls were dirty, cracked, dented, and full of cobwebs. The carpet was littered with bits, indicating it hadn’t been vacuumed in a while, and there were huge dark stains everywhere. I kept my shoes on. A broken stool was propped up to look fine. There were a lot of extension cords and plugs, raising concerns about electrical safety. The appliances plugged in included the world’s loudest mini fridge and a ticking portable heater, both of which I unplugged to heat myself. Furniture was covered in crumbs, and the skirting boards had thick dust layers.

Breakfast was excellent and the room was good.

Nothing to say positively. The fact that no one spoke English, I was met at a dim reception with a phone being waved in my face, and a translator I complained to, made the whole place look nothing like the photos I found; the entire experience was very upsetting. I was in an area I didn’t know, and at 5 pm when I wanted to relax I was panicking and had nowhere to stay.

Not much to praise. The location was ideal for our plans the next day, but there were other options a little further afield that I wish I had booked instead. I had booked a deluxe double but was given only one pillow per person. Extras were in the wardrobe but no covers. Opening the door, I was greeted by a row of mismatched furniture, including a very worn and torn tub chair. The room felt like a furniture dumping ground. The entrance to the room was piled with far too many leaflets next to a communal microwave that felt very much like a fire hazard. Decor was dated, with worn paint and fillers throughout. A fridge was provided but quite rusted/dirty when opened. The bathroom had dirty grout areas and the shower screen was full of water and limescale marks, and the toilet cistern was black down the side where there was clearly a long‑standing leak. Towels were frayed and the sliding bathroom door was so noisy I was fearful of using it at night in case I woke my partner. Externally, the site looked abandoned on arrival and like the beginnings of a reclamation yard. No one was on site for arrival despite having an option to pay on arrival. I only stayed because I couldn’t afford to go anywhere else, but we left as soon as we woke, getting to our day’s destination nearly 2 hrs early. I raised concerns with the landlord the next morning when I had to pay, and he was not apologetic; he just said it was the character/style of the place due to its history/age. He gave a £10 discount but I would rather have a full refund as room 4 was not worth a penny in my mind. The place has so much potential but clearly not much is being done about it.
