“Décevant. médiocr”
My mother gave us this stay to ensure two days of peace and quiet for our wedding. The setting is splendid, the room is spacious and comfortable, and the restaurant is good though not outstanding. The reception was appalling: we rang the bell, rang again, and walked around the building in vain looking for someone. Finally, after 25 minutes, a man in a shabby uniform came to open the door. He asked what we wanted, we introduced ourselves, and as a welcome, he… gave us no information about opening times, Wi‑Fi, or breakfast. He handed us the room, which turned out to be a furnace. There was a mobile air‑conditioner, but no system to vent hot air, even removable; we had to leave the window open. The blinds couldn’t be closed, so the sun kept beating in, and with the room on the ground floor, privacy was virtually nonexistent. For young newlyweds, it was really disappointing. For breakfast, we weren’t asked what we wanted, there was no milk pot, so no chocolate. It was left in front of our door, and no one knocked. We waited. In short, another let‑down. On Saturday night we returned after a day full of emotions, and the joy of being married. We entered our room where housekeeping hadn’t cleaned. We took a cold shower because there was no hot water, and we gave up on the air‑conditioner. The next day there was still no hot water. We had breakfast and left, disappointed with our stay. I mentioned this to the young woman at check‑out. If I had known it was your wedding, I would have left a small token. The man in the shabby uniform was present and told me he knew. It was lamentable to the end. We left disheartened. Mom paid a steep price for a stay that was supposed to add to our happiness. This establishment lives on an old reputation that is neither up to its former glory nor worthy of Relais & Châteaux.
