“It was a horrible and disappointing stay”
The cab driver at the Kottayam train station didn’t even recognize the hotel’s name, claiming to be a senior local driver. After a few questions, we realized the signage never mentioned “Treebo,” so we weren’t sure if it was a Treebo property. Getting to the front desk was a maze of obstacles. The room was in the basement, even though the front desk had told us on the phone a couple of days earlier that there was an elevator—there was no elevator at all. Both of us are senior citizens with limited mobility and knee and foot problems, so climbing the stairs to the lobby was hard. The stairs were almost pitch dark and smelled bad. The room itself had a foul odor. The booking system promised a special breakfast, but it was totally disappointing. The breakfast area was hot and sultry with no fans, coolers, or air conditioning. No staff were there, and we had to wait for someone from reception to let us in. That staff member told us they only had roti and egg curry for breakfast, which shocked us; we expected at least the usual South Indian items like idli and dosa. I asked for coffee, but it was disgusting. It was a horrible, disappointing stay. The front desk could have been honest on the phone about the lack of a lift. Access to the front desk could have been easier. The stairs could have been better lit and odorless. Breakfast could have included idli, dosa, and other South Indian items. The staff could have been more helpful and supportive.
