Karin and Dirkie were very helpful, and both dinner and breakfast were fantastic! Unfortunately, the pool wasn’t very clean.

Our time at Bakenskraal Ostrich Palace turned out to be flawless – the setting is dreamy, quiet and a little outside Oudtshoorn, surrounded by open countryside, ideal for unwinding; the colonial‑style main house radiates charm and classic elegance that matches the scenery, the breakfast was extensive and delicious, and the evening three‑course menu was equally superb, both served at a high level; the staff were attentive, warm and professional, making us feel welcome from the first minute.

Every morning there was a wonderful breakfast buffet! The staff were very friendly and helpful—setting up single beds on short notice, turning on the night light on our stoep, delivering late breakfast to our room, and washing our car before we left. The reception could have been better; there was no water or welcome drink, and I’d have liked a tour to learn more about the house and its history. The modern rooms were built separately from the main house called “the palace,” which was not what I expected. The dirt road to the Palace was very dark at night and in poor condition. I thought we’d see many ostriches, but they were at another location, and messages weren’t passed to the property because that was handled elsewhere.

The location is great and the breakfast is fabulous, but there is no place to plug in an electric vehicle.
