VerdeAmar Eco Lodge Jungle Retreat

The room was nice and clean and the location was generally good. Beware: the good reviews do not reflect the current reality! We wanted to finish our holiday relaxed, but instead of a jungle retreat we ended up in a Mexican family fiesta. Instead of jungle calm there was a packed restaurant occupied by the staff’s family, loud music with singing late into the night, and the music only softened after 22 o’clock at our request. The actual operator was absent, and the stand‑in left the poolside area literally in disarray. The restaurant looked like a landfill – food scraps and trash on the floor and dirty dishes. We felt extremely uncomfortable in that atmosphere. For 99 € per night this is outrageous. Anyone looking for real relaxation should currently skip this place. When asked where the real owner was, they initially acted clueless and seemed to forget who the real owner was. Only after repeated inquiries did they say he had gone away… That’s how we imagined our last evening in Yucatan.

“Overall I highly recommend this place just be prepared for lack of signage.”

The location is peaceful, with only nature sounds audible. It’s beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. The on‑site hostess, Lluvis, went above and beyond many times; she is a treasure. I recommend the slightly more expensive room – it’s well worth it. The location is about half a mile off the main road down a dirt track. While that in itself isn’t a problem (it’s very passable) there are no signs. No sign marks the seemingly random dirt track into the jungle nor at the gate when you arrive. The only sign is inside the gate. We would never have found it without a personal escort. A single sign on the road and another on the gate would have saved us an hour of frustration. Lluvis, the onsite hostess, was very helpful via text. The phone number listed on the booking site goes to the “jefe” and he didn’t recognize our names or even the name of the property. It was very unsettling. The rooms don’t have A/C, though the fans were plenty for us. The hot water also did not work well during our stay.

Being in the middle of the jungle and the attention of Pepe, the owner, was an experience. Very attentive and pleasant.

“The place to be. We would have loved to stay longer!”

If you’re after a quiet, lovely, clean and remote spot, this place on the coast is perfect. The Italian owner cooked fantastic pasta for dinner and an equally superb breakfast, and the service was wonderful.
