On the train, very close to the airport, an alternative to staying in the center, very easy to reach, small but comfortable. I liked everything.

The room was beautifully furnished, and the bed with its 200 cm wide box‑spring mattress felt like a dream; we even looked up the brand to buy it at home, though the price is five‑digit and beyond our budget. Having such a luxurious bed as a guest shows how much Clounys cares about its guests. Small touches also stood out: many hotels only offer a single bottle of water on arrival, but Clounys gives a fresh bottle of Aqua Panna every day when the old one empties. We also liked that the bathroom and toilet were separate, and we only opened the windows during the day for ventilation; at night they were closed and we heard almost nothing from outside or the S‑bahn, probably because of sound‑proof windows. We hadn’t booked breakfast beforehand and had already planned city locations, but on the first morning we decided to have breakfast at Clounys. For 18 EUR per person, an e‑tager with various cold cuts, cheese, jam, orange juice, and unlimited coffee was served, and it was so tasty and plentiful that we ate there every day. The staff were very friendly, especially Heidi, the house’s good soul, who gave us great sightseeing tips and always had a solution ready. The atmosphere was somewhat family‑like, which we loved. The roughly 30‑minute drive from Altstadt to Wellingsbüttel didn’t bother us, and the price‑performance ratio of this hotel is truly top. We give it the maximum score and already look forward to our next visit! On the downside, the separate toilet has a motion sensor that lights up immediately when the door opens, which can be annoying for light‑sensitive people at night; we would prefer a switch that only turns on after the door is closed. There is no sink in the toilet, so washing hands at the bathroom sink in the dark is awkward, and turning on the light also spills onto the sleeping area even with the curtain closed. Sleeping with open windows is difficult due to the proximity to the S‑bahn and a nearby restaurant. The staff say that in summer mobile air‑conditioners will be placed in the rooms to solve this issue. Finally, it feels rude that Hamburg, a tourist‑heavy city that generates significant revenue, still imposes a tourist tax of 8 EUR per two people per night.
